چکیده
The decay of quantum vortex rings in counterflow regimes, visualized Helium II with the help solid hydrogen particles trapped to their cores, has been a puzzling issue within usual description superfluid dynamics, grounded on hypothesis that filament is, effectively, an extended massless object subject canceling superposition Magnus and mutual friction forces. We discuss, from general energy-budget point view, phenomenological solution this problem, which relies viscous dissipation mechanisms, later associated backreaction singular structures surrounding two-component fluid mixture.

The decay of confined vortex rings
Vortex rings are produced during the ejection of fluid through a nozzle or orifice, which occurs in a wide range of biological conditions such as blood flow through the valves of the heart or through arterial constrictions. Confined vortex ring dynamics, such as these, have not been previously studied despite their occurrence within the biological flow conditions mentioned. In this work, we inv...
متن کاملOscillating pendulum decay by emission of vortex rings.
We have studied oscillation of a pendulum in water using spherical bobs. By measuring the loss in potential energy, we estimate the drag coefficient on the sphere and compare to data from liquid-helium experiments. The drag coefficients compare very favorably illustrating the true scaling behavior of this phenomenon. We also studied the decay of amplitude of the pendulum over time. As observed ...
متن کاملHelicity conservation under quantum reconnection of vortex rings.
Here we show that under quantum reconnection, simulated by using the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, self-helicity of a system of two interacting vortex rings remains conserved. By resolving the fine structure of the vortex cores, we demonstrate that the total length of the vortex system reaches a maximum at the reconnection time, while both writhe helicity and twist helicity remai...
متن کاملVortex stretching as a mechanism for quantum kinetic energy decay.
A pair of perturbed antiparallel quantum vortices, simulated using the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equations, is shown to be unstable to vortex stretching. This results in kinetic energy K(∇ψ) being converted into interaction energy E(I) and eventually local kinetic energy depletion that is similar to energy decay in a classical fluid, even though the governing equations are Hamiltonian ...
متن کاملA New Technique for the Calculation of Colliding Vortex Rings
The present study involves a novel computational technique, regarding simultaneous use of the pseudo particle method, Poisson integral method and a special-purpose computer originally designed for molecular dynamics simulations (MDGRAPE-3). In the present calculations, the dynamics of two colliding vortex rings have been studied using the vortex method. The present acceleration technique allows...
